Mapinduzi Cup: Singida, Simba in tricky fixtures today

2024 begins with a style with Mapinduzi Cup staging two tricky fixtures in Group B.

In the early match, Group B leaders Singida Fountain Gate will be taking on APR of Rwanda in what promises to be a tough match, set to attract the attention of many football fans.

Teams will be battling it out for maximum points in hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition.

A win for the former will see them qualify for the knockout stage of the competition.

The second game will see JKU hosting Simba, with the latter playing their first fixture of the contest under the tutelage of Algerian trainer Abdelhak Benchikha.

So far, the Singida-based club has 3 points in the bag, generated after producing a 4-1 success over JKU in their opening match of the tournament.

At a pre-match briefing yesterday, APR coach Thierry Froger said that despite a difficult fixture for this year’s tournament, they are well-prepared to grab maximum points from the match.

“The competition is good, and we are using it as part of our drills ahead of the second round of the Rwandan Premier League,” he said.

“Our mission is to win the title in each competition we play.” He added that they are not afraid of the 4-1 victory recorded by their opponents in their previous match as his team has had enough drills ready to take on their opponents.

On his part, Singida Fountain Gate coach Thabo Senong also insisted that they are fully prepared for the important fixture, and their number one target is to annex maximum points.

“We started well in the competition by winning our first match, and we would like to continue with the same spirit. As such, we are going to play with determination to collect tangible results from the encounter,” he said.

He added that there are no injuries or suspended players from his squad, and this gives them an upper advantage to do well while insisting that they need to be at their best to shine.

His player, Gadiel Michael, also remarked that they will try everything possible to emerge victorious and walk away with the much-needed triumph.
